Studiositas v. Curiositas

As far as blogs go, a Mental Health blog must be useful to the client. And yet, I do not know you yet, I haven’t met you. I stumbled upon two ancient words while scrolling:

Studiositas: disciplined, purposeful desire to know. It is curiosity governed by attention, humility, and a real aim: learning what is worth knowing.

Curiositas: restless, scattered, or vain desire to know. It seeks novelty, spectacle, gossip, control, or distraction rather than wisdom.

The two words adapt well to scrolling, looking for answers for your life.

May most of our scrollings yield Studiositas results.

Most people need some sort of ‘sorting’, finding what to work on first, what is important, what is fluff, and what is unhealthy, what you should move away from. Therapy can help some with that. If you are trying to map where to go next, therapy can be a navigator hour.

I often worry about too much ‘Curiositas’ scrolling; sometimes scrolling to avoid action or avoid pain or painful decisions.

So: do your searches, with friends, co-workers, scrolling, and other places you trust. Best of luck. Never stop looking, and don’t forget to act.
